Pakistani cadet named 'Best Foreign Military Cadet' at Australia's Duntroon

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - A Pakistani Army cadet has been declared the "Overall Best Foreign Military Cadet" at the prestigious Royal Military College (RMC) Duntroon in Australia, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Wednesday.

Cadet Sardar Arsam Abbas of the PMA 152 Long Course received the award during the commissioning parade at RMC Duntroon in Canberra on May 5, the military's media wing said in a statement.

The award is conferred upon the highest-performing foreign military cadet across all facets of training. The commissioning parade was reviewed by Australian Chief of Army Lieutenant General Simon Stuart, AO DSC, and witnessed by members of the diplomatic corps, including Pakistan's High Commissioner to Canberra.

Pakistan and Australia share a longstanding military relationship, the ISPR said. Since 2009, 46 Pakistani Army cadets have graduated from RMC Duntroon. Additionally, since 2013, seven officers of the Pakistan Army have served as platoon commanders on the college's faculty.

This marks the 14th occasion on which a Pakistani cadet has been named the overall best foreign military cadet at the Australian institution.

The ISPR noted that among previous recipients was Lieutenant Nasir Hussain Khalid Selhria Shaheed, Tamgha-e-Basalat, who was martyred on September 4, 2020, in North Waziristan District. His name is inscribed on the memorial stone at the RMC parade ground.

"Symbolising the enduring legacy of courage, sacrifice and honour of brave Pakistani Army Officers," the statement said.

Australian defence officials have not yet issued a separate statement on the award.
