Pakistani authorities demolished nearly 1,000 houses of Afghan refugees

ISLAMABAD - Pakistani authorities on Thursday launched an operation against the Afghan refugee camps and demolished hundreds of houses.

According to officials, in the capital Islamabad over 1,000 houses of refugees were demolished in “Kacha basti” in I/12 sector of the capital territory. 

Capital Devolvement Authority (CDA) said that it was operation against the encroachment in the capital city as these Afghans were living there illegally. 

However, the operation was carried out after Islamabad launched a crackdown against illegal foreigners across the country and arrested hundreds of them during the last two days.

Pakistan last month announced that all illegal foreigners should leave the country before Nov. 1st.

Some, 150,000 Afghans left the country during last one month as they were living in Pakistan without any legal documents.
