Pakistan Condemns Israeli Aggression Against Qatar at UN Security Council

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan strongly condemned Israel’s “illegal and unprovoked” attack on Qatar, calling it a grave violation of international law and a dangerous provocation that threatens regional peace, during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on Thursday.

Speaking at the session convened at the request of Algeria, Pakistan, and Somalia, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, denounced the strikes on a residential neighborhood in Doha as a “flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.” He said the attack also constituted a breach of international humanitarian law by deliberately endangering civilians.

Ambassador Ahmad underscored that the aggression was not an isolated incident but part of Israel’s broader pattern of violations across the region, citing repeated strikes in Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, and Yemen. “Such reckless actions erode the rule of law and breed a culture of impunity that threatens all states,” he said.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s solidarity with Qatar, he announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, was visiting Doha to demonstrate Pakistan’s unwavering support for Qatar’s security and sovereignty.

The envoy also highlighted Qatar’s central role in mediation efforts, warning that targeting a principal peace facilitator amounted to “an attack on diplomacy and mediation itself.”

Ambassador Ahmad welcomed the Council’s expression of support for Qatar but urged members to hold Israel accountable and protect mediators engaged in peace negotiations.

Calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire across Gaza, he reiterated Pakistan’s support for a two-state solution based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as the capital of Palestine.

“Pakistan stands shoulder to shoulder with the leadership and people of Qatar in defense of their sovereignty, dignity, and territorial integrity,” he concluded.
