Pakistan Extend Support To Cyclone Hit Sri Lanka

Islamabad – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday held a telephone conversation with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, expressing deep sorrow over the heavy loss of life and widespread devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah across Sri Lanka.

 

In what was described as a warm and cordial interaction, the Prime Minister conveyed heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Sri Lanka, particularly the families who lost their loved ones in the deadly floods and landslides. The recent disaster has claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands, leaving the island nation grappling with a major humanitarian crisis.

 

Recognising the quick mobilization of Sri Lankan authorities and rescue teams, the Prime Minister praised their timely response in the face of harsh conditions. Recalling Pakistan’s own recurring struggles against climate-induced disasters, he affirmed that Pakistan “stood in complete solidarity” with the Sri Lankan nation in this difficult hour.

 

Prime Minister Sharif informed President Dissanayake that Pakistan would immediately dispatch urgently needed humanitarian relief to help support recovery and relief efforts in the worst-affected areas.
