Pakistan to host SCO heads of state summit in Islamabad in 2027

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan will host the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State Summit in Islamabad in 2027, with preparations underway for the high-level regional gathering, the Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting to review arrangements for the summit, emphasizing coordination among relevant ministries and government departments to ensure timely preparations.
Dar directed officials to advance organizational arrangements in a comprehensive and timely manner, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
Highlighting the importance of the summit, Dar said Pakistan's preparations should reflect the country's hospitality and its commitment to cooperation within the SCO, the statement added.
The meeting was attended by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, the secretary of defence, the acting foreign secretary, the chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and senior Foreign Ministry officials.
The ministry did not specify the exact dates of the 2027 summit.
The SCO is a regional organization that brings together countries across Asia and Eurasia to promote cooperation on security, economic development and other shared interests.
