ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s army chief and chief of defence forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, met Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev on Wednesday to discuss regional security and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, Pakistan’s military said.
Kolokoltsev called on Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, near Islamabad, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Pakistani military’s media wing.
The meeting focused on matters of mutual interest and the regional security environment, with particular emphasis on expanding cooperation between the security institutions of the two countries.
Both sides highlighted the importance of closer institutional ties and improved coordination between their respective security agencies, the statement said.
Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding relations with Russia and expanding practical cooperation in areas of shared interest, particularly security.
Kolokoltsev, in turn, appreciated Pakistan’s contributions to regional peace and stability and praised the professionalism and sacrifices of the Pakistan Armed Forces in combating terrorism, according to the ISPR.
The meeting comes as Islamabad and Moscow seek to broaden engagement beyond traditional diplomatic and economic ties, including cooperation on regional security challenges.
Kolokoltsev’s visit also provides an opportunity for the two countries to discuss regional developments and explore ways to improve coordination on shared security concerns.
