ISLAMABAD - Pakistan and Oman have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with a focus on expanding trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met his Omani counterpart, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al Busaidi, ahead of the eighth session of the Pakistan-Oman Joint Ministerial Commission in Islamabad.

During the meeting, the two ministers highlighted the longstanding ties between the South Asian country and the Gulf state and stressed the importance of sustained high-level engagement to deepen cooperation across areas of mutual interest, according to a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry.

Trade, investment and closer contacts between the two populations were among the key areas identified for further cooperation.

The ministers also exchanged views on regional developments and emphasised the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in achieving lasting peace and stability.

According to the statement, Oman’s foreign minister praised Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional peace and security. Dar, in turn, acknowledged Oman’s constructive role and its commitment to regional stability.

The meeting comes as Pakistan seeks to strengthen economic and diplomatic engagement with Gulf countries, while Oman has maintained an active diplomatic role in regional affairs.

The eighth Pakistan-Oman Joint Ministerial Commission session is expected to provide a forum for the two countries to discuss bilateral cooperation and explore opportunities to expand economic and diplomatic ties.
