Pakistan condemns Israeli attacks in Lebanon at UN Security Council

By The South Asia Times

NEW YORK - Pakistan has strongly condemned Israeli military actions in Lebanon, warning that the escalating violence threatens civilian lives and risks undermining regional stability.

Speaking at an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Usman Jadoon, denounced what he described as Israel’s continued military aggression in southern Lebanon.

He said Israeli attacks have killed more than 400 civilians, including at least 83 children and 42 women, while forcing over 600,000 people to flee their homes. He also criticized large-scale evacuation orders across southern Lebanon, saying they had intensified civilian suffering and led to widespread destruction of infrastructure.

Pakistan reiterated its full support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and called for an immediate halt to Israeli military operations.

Jadoon also strongly condemned attacks that injured peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, stressing that UN personnel carrying out mandates authorized by the Security Council must be protected at all times.

He further described Israel’s continued military presence and the establishment of positions inside Lebanese territory as illegal and unacceptable, urging Israel to immediately and unconditionally withdraw from all occupied Lebanese territories.

Pakistan also called for the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which aims to maintain stability along the Blue Line, the UN-demarcated boundary between Israel and Lebanon.

Jadoon warned that the crisis in Lebanon cannot be viewed in isolation from the broader escalation across the Middle East, where rising confrontations risk further destabilizing the region.

He urged all parties to exercise restraint and prioritize dialogue and diplomacy to prevent further deterioration of the regional security environment. Pakistan, he said, stands firmly with the government and people of Lebanon and called on the international community to act urgently to prevent further escalation and alleviate humanitarian suffering.
