ISLAMABAD - Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan on Thursday agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov led delegation-level talks at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad.

Prime Minister Sharif, assisted by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, federal ministers and senior officials, underscored Pakistan’s strong commitment to its “brotherly relations” with the Kyrgyz Republic and reiterated Islamabad’s “Vision Central Asia” policy to enhance regional engagement.

Both leaders agreed to expand trade and investment ties and set an ambitious bilateral trade target of USD 200 million by 2027–28 through effective implementation of existing agreements and memorandums of understanding. They also expressed satisfaction over the successful fifth meeting of the Kyrgyz-Pakistan Joint Intergovernmental Commission held in July this year.

Energy connectivity featured prominently in the talks, with both sides reaffirming the importance of timely implementation of the CASA-1000 power transmission project. The leaders also welcomed progress on regional connectivity, expressing satisfaction over the operational road corridor between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan under the Quadrilateral Traffic in Transit Agreement.

On regional and global issues, the two leaders stressed peaceful resolution of disputes in line with international law and voiced concern over rising threats to regional security. They reaffirmed support for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan and urged concrete action against terrorist groups. The leaders also reiterated support for Palestinian statehood based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as the capital.

Following the talks, the two sides witnessed the exchange of 15 agreements and MoUs in areas including energy, mining, education, agriculture, trade, culture and tourism. Earlier, President Zhaparov was accorded a guard of honour at the Prime Minister’s House, and Prime Minister Sharif hosted a luncheon in his honour.
