Pakistan welcomes Kuwait's ratification of 2023 defense cooperation agreement

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan on Wednesday welcomed Kuwait's ratification of the Pakistan-Kuwait Defence Cooperation Agreement, signed in June 2023, describing the move as a significant step toward strengthening the two countries' longstanding security partnership.

In a statement, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said the ratification marks another milestone in bilateral defense relations that date back to the early 1980s and reflects both countries' commitment to expanding military cooperation.

The agreement, ratified by Kuwait in July 2026, establishes a comprehensive framework for cooperation in military training and education, joint exercises, exchanges of expertise and other mutually agreed areas. Pakistan said the accord will strengthen institutional linkages between the armed forces of both countries and further consolidate their defense partnership.

Islamabad said Pakistan and Kuwait would work closely to implement the agreement in line with its provisions, with the aim of enhancing bilateral defense collaboration and contributing to regional peace, security and stability.

The defense cooperation agreement was originally signed on June 11, 2023, during high-level engagements between the two countries.
