Pakistan army launches operation against terrorists in Bannu CTD center

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani authorities on Tuesday launched a military operation against terrorists who had taken hostages at a Counter-Terrorism Depart­ment (CTD) center in Bannu district of northwestern Pakistan. 

 

"Operation is successfully underway way at CTD  office Bannu and is going to be completed soon," said Pakistan army in a statement.

 

However, the country's defense minister Khawaja Asif while speaking in the National Assembly said that all terrorist inside the CTD building have been killed.

 

"“This operation was initiated on December 20 at 12:30pm by the Special Service Group and all terrorists were killed,” Asif said, adding that the entire CTD compound was cleared by 2:30pm," Dawn quoted Asif as saying.

 

He added that 33 terrorists were killed inside the building while two army soldiers also martyred and 10 to 15 were injured.

 

Earlier, Pakistan army launched an operation against the terrorists after more than 48 hours of efforts to rescue its CTD officials’ hostages inside the building but the terrorists wanted safe passage to Afghanistan but army declined their demand. 

 

Late Sunday, the militants held in the CTD center and took a number of law enforcers hostage. They had demanded safe passage to Afghanistan.
