Pakistan’s Naqvi delivers top leaders' message to Iranian president, foreign minister, briefs them on Makkah Defense Pact

ISLAMABAD - Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held talks with Iranian leaders on Tuesday and conveyed a message from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, concerning the evolving regional situation, according to Pakistani officials.

Naqvi also briefed the Iranian leadership on the recently signed Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye and took Iranian officials into confidence about the pact, the officials said.

The minister is assisting Field Marshal Munir in Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region, according to the officials.

A day earlier, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and briefed him on the trilateral defense agreement.

The diplomatic contacts come as Pakistan seeks to maintain communication with Iran and Gulf states while playing a broader role in regional peace efforts. Pakistani officials say Munir remains in regular contact with senior officials in Gulf countries, Iran and the United States as Islamabad works to facilitate dialogue and prevent further escalation.

The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye in the holy city of Makkah, has emerged as a significant development in regional security cooperation.

The agreement commits the three countries to closer defense coordination and declares that an attack against one member would be considered an attack against all three.

Pakistan has emphasized that the agreement is intended to strengthen collective security and cooperation among the participating countries amid growing regional tensions.
