Pakistan, EU renew commitment to deeper strategic partnership in Brussels

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan and the European Union on Saturday reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening a broad-based and future-oriented partnership during the 7th Pakistan–EU Strategic Dialogue held in Brussels.

The meeting was co-chaired by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and EU High Representative and Vice President Kaja Kallas.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, the two sides conducted a comprehensive review of their bilateral ties, building on recent high-level engagements and institutional cooperation. They underscored shared values including multilateralism, mutual respect, and cooperation under the UN Charter.

Both sides emphasized the need to expand trade and investment opportunities, particularly under the EU’s GSP+ scheme, which has been a key driver of Pakistan’s export growth, industrial development, and job creation. They agreed to explore further avenues to diversify trade and promote economic linkages.

The dialogue also covered key regional and international developments. Pakistan and the EU exchanged views on the situation in South Asia, Afghanistan, the Middle East, and wider global geopolitical shifts. They highlighted the importance of joint efforts to promote peace, stability, sustainable development, and tackle global challenges such as climate change and connectivity.

Expressing satisfaction with cooperation under the Strategic Engagement Plan (SEP 2019), both sides pledged to advance ongoing dialogues and identify concrete areas for future collaboration.

The ministry said that the renewed focus on partnership reflects a shared commitment to deepening ties across all domains in the years ahead.
