North Korea's Kim’s daughter takes the wheel as Pyongyang showcases new tanks in major military drills

By The South Asia Times

SEOUL -  North Korean leader Kim Jong-un oversaw a major military drill featuring new battle tanks, with his daughter Ju-ae drawing attention after being seen driving one during the exercise, state media reported Friday.

The drills, conducted at a training base near Pyongyang, involved coordinated offensive operations between infantry and armored units of North Korea’s military, the Korean Central News Agency reported.

The exercise also tested the capabilities of a newly developed main battle tank.

According to official reports, the tank demonstrated advanced defensive systems, successfully intercepting incoming anti-tank missiles and drones from multiple directions during the drills.

Kim praised the tank as “very superior,” highlighting its firepower, mobility, and enhanced survivability. He said the military plans to deploy the new tanks extensively to strengthen ground forces.

The appearance of Ju-ae in an active role during the drill has further fueled speculation about her increasing public presence alongside the North Korean leader.

The exercise comes amid continued efforts by Pyongyang to modernize its military capabilities, raising concerns among regional observers about growing security tensions.
