Pakistan army killed 5 terrorists in operation in Bajaur, army major martyred

By The South Asia Times

RAWALPINDI / PESHAWAR - Pakistan’s security forces killed five Indian-sponsored terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Khar are of  Bajaur district in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, while an army officer embraced martyrdom during the exchange of fire, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

According to ISPR, the operation was conducted  following intelligence reports regarding the presence of militants belonging to Fitna al Khwarij, an Indian proxy group. Security forces effectively engaged the terrorists’ hideout, resulting in the killing of five militants.

However, during the intense firefight, Major Adeel Zaman, 36, a resident of Dera Ismail Khan, was martyred while leading his troops from the front. ISPR said the officer fought gallantly and made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the slain terrorists, who were involved in multiple attacks against security forces, law enforcement agencies, and innocent civilians in the area.

ISPR said sanitisation operations were underway to eliminate any remaining Indian-sponsored militants in the region, adding that the counterterrorism campaign under the vision of “Azm-e-Istehkam,” approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan, would continue at full pace to eradicate foreign-sponsored terrorism from Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the funeral prayer of Major Adeel Zaman Shaheed was offered at Peshawar Garrison later in the day. The funeral was attended by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, the Interior Minister, Commander Peshawar Corps, senior military and civil officials, and members of the public.

Paying rich tribute, Field Marshal Asim Munir said the martyrs of the Pakistan Army are the pride of the nation and that their sacrifices will be remembered forever.

He prayed for the elevation of the Shaheed’s ranks in Jannah and for patience and strength for the bereaved family.

Major Adeel Zaman Shaheed will be laid to rest with full military honours in his native town of Dera Ismail Khan.

Later, the Army Chief visited Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Peshawar to inquire about the health of officers and soldiers injured during the operation and lauded their courage and steadfastness.
