Death Toll in Iran Rises to 585 Amid Escalating Cross-Border Strikes with Israel

By The South Asia Times

TEHRAN : The death toll in Iran has surged to 585, with 1,326 injured, following a series of Israeli airstrikes that have devastated multiple areas across the country, according to Iranian health and emergency authorities.

The strikes, described as among the deadliest in recent years, come amid a dramatic escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran. In response, Iran launched a wave of retaliatory missile attacks, which Israel claims have killed 24 people and injured hundreds more across cities including Tel Aviv and Rishon LeZion.

Both nations continue to trade heavy strikes, and the situation in the Middle East remains highly volatile. Observers warn that further escalation could trigger a broader regional conflict, drawing in neighboring countries and potentially disrupting global energy markets.

Despite calls from the international community urging restraint and dialogue, no ceasefire appears imminent as military operations continue on both sides. The United Nations Security Council has called for an emergency meeting to address the unfolding crisis.

This latest round of violence follows months of growing tension fueled by proxy conflicts, border clashes, and accusations of sabotage. Civilians in both countries are bearing the brunt of the conflict, with hundreds of homes destroyed, infrastructure damaged, and displacement on the rise.

Regional powers and global actors are closely monitoring the developments, fearing that a misstep on either side could ignite a much larger confrontation.
