Pakistan military chief warns use of Afghan soil by terrorists against Pakistan will not be tolerated

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan's military chief on Thursday said Islamabad will not tolerate the use of Afghanistan’s territory for terrorist activities against Pakistan, reaffirming a policy of targeted operations against militant networks.

Speaking during a meeting with religious scholars from the Ahl-e-Tasheeh community in Rawalpindi, Fied Martial General Asim Munir stressed the importance of national unity and the role of clerics in countering sectarianism, misinformation, and what he described as externally backed destabilization efforts, according to a statement issued by ISPR.

Referring to ongoing counterterrorism measures, he said Pakistan remains committed to eliminating militants and their infrastructure “wherever they may be” through intelligence-based operations.

He also urged the Afghan Taliban to ensure that Afghan soil is not used for attacks against Pakistan.

The army chief highlighted Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions, while warning that violence within Pakistan linked to incidents abroad would not be tolerated. He emphasized that religious sentiments must not be exploited to incite unrest.

Participating scholars expressed support for peace and stability, strongly condemning violence in the name of religion and pledging cooperation with law enforcement agencies.

Pakistan has seen a rise in militant attacks in recent years, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, with authorities frequently blaming the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Islamabad has accused the Afghan Taliban of allowing militant sanctuaries across the border, an allegation Kabul denies.
