ISLAMABAD -  Pakistan’s military said Tuesday it had successfully test-fired an extended-range version of its Fatah-2 missile, describing the weapon as capable of striking targets with high precision and manoeuvring to evade missile defence systems.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, said the Fatah-2 Extended Range (ER) was equipped with advanced navigation technology and modern avionics.

According to the military, the missile’s extended range would expand the Pakistan Army’s ability to engage targets at greater distances. It also said the weapon’s trajectory and manoeuvrability were designed to help it defeat enemy missile defence systems.

The ISPR did not disclose the missile’s maximum range, the location of the test launch or other technical details in its statement.

The test was witnessed by the commander of the Army Rocket Force Command, senior Pakistan Army officers, and scientists and engineers involved in developing the system, the statement said.

The commander praised the scientists and engineers for their technical expertise and dedication, it added.

Pakistan’s president and prime minister, along with the chief of army staff and chief of defence forces and the heads of the country’s armed services, congratulated the scientists and engineers on the successful test, according to the military.
