Australian prime minister evacuated after Bomb threat linked to Shen Yun performances: Report

By The South Asia Times

CANBERRA - Australia’s prime minister was evacuated from the official residence, The Lodge, on Tuesday night following a bomb threat allegedly linked to upcoming performances by the US-based Chinese classical dance company Shen Yun Performing Arts, ABC News reported on Wednesday.

Authorities confirmed that a threatening email was sent to Shen Yun’s local organisers, falsely claiming that explosives had been placed around the prime minister’s residence and would be detonated if the group’s performances in Australia went ahead.

The threat prompted a security response and the temporary evacuation of the prime minister from The Lodge. Officials later determined the threat was not credible, but investigations are ongoing.

Shen Yun, which is associated with the spiritual movement Falun Gong, is scheduled to hold several concerts across Australia in the coming weeks. The group is banned in China, where authorities consider Falun Gong an illegal organization.

A newspaper linked to Falun Gong previously reported that organisers had received threatening emails demanding the cancellation of the performances.

Australian authorities have not publicly attributed the source of the threat. Security agencies are continuing to investigate the incident.
