Two suicide attacks hit Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; four terrorists killed, cop martyred

By The South Asia Times

QUETTA / LAKKI MARWAT — Security forces thwarted a major terror bid targeting the Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters in Balochistan’s Nokundi late Sunday night, killing three militants after a woman suicide bomber blew herself up at the camp’s main gate, while a separate suicide attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district left a police official martyred on Monday.

An FC South spokesperson said the female attacker detonated explosives at the entrance of the FC fort, after which at least six armed militants attempted to storm the premises. The Quick Response Force swiftly retaliated, gunning down three terrorists who had entered the compound, according to daily Dawn.

Heavy gunfire and multiple explosions were heard during the clash, but the military said the situation was brought under control and a clearance operation was underway.

The banned Balochistan Liberation Front claimed responsibility, identifying the suicide bomber as Zareena Rafiq alias Tarang Maho, marking at least the fifth known instance of female suicide bombers deployed by Baloch militant outfits in Pakistan.

Separately, in Lakki Marwat, a police mobile in the Tajori area was targeted in a suicide blast. Head Constable Alauddin embraced martyrdom, while five officers — including an ASI and Elite Force personnel — sustained injuries.

Police said credible intelligence had been received regarding suspicious movement in the area prior to the attack. According to officials, the bomber’s accomplice fled the scene and a manhunt has been launched.

The back-to-back suicide attacks highlight the persistent militant threat in Pakistan’s western regions, even as security forces intensify counterterrorism operations. Authorities have urged heightened vigilance and public cooperation to prevent further attacks.
