Pakistan announces US-Iran peace deal, signing set for June 19 in Switzerland

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Monday that a peace agreement between the United States and Iran has been reached following intensive negotiations, marking a major diplomatic breakthrough aimed at ending hostilities across the region.

In a statement posted on social media, Sharif said both sides had agreed to the "immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon."

The Pakistani leader said the official signing ceremony would take place in Switzerland on June 19.

"We are pleased to announce that the Peace Deal between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran has been reached," Sharif said, thanking both governments for their commitment to a diplomatic solution.

Sharif also praised the roles played by regional mediators, expressing gratitude to Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye for their contributions to the mediation effort.

According to the statement, mediators will facilitate a series of meetings this week to prepare for the implementation phase of the agreement. The discussions are expected to lay the groundwork for technical negotiations ahead of the formal signing ceremony.

The announcement comes after weeks of diplomatic engagement involving senior officials from Washington and Tehran, raising hopes for a broader reduction in tensions across the Middle East.
