Pakistan says 10 militants killed, female suicide bombers arrested in Balochistan operations

ISLAMABAD - Pakistani security forces said on Tuesday they killed 10 militants and arrested two female suicide bombers during intelligence-based counterterrorism operations in the southwestern province of Balochistan over the past 48 hours.

According to a statement from the military's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations were carried out in Surab and Mastung districts as part of an ongoing campaign targeting militant networks operating in the province.

The military said seven militants were killed during an operation in Surab after security forces engaged their hideouts.

In a separate operation in Mastung, three more militants were killed, while two female suicide bombers and a facilitator were arrested, the statement said.

Security forces also recovered weapons, ammunition and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from the militants during the operations.

The ISPR said the operations are part of broader efforts to dismantle militant networks and eliminate their remaining infrastructure and facilitators in Balochistan.

Pakistan's military said that those detained in Mastung belonged to "Fitna al Hindustan," a term it uses for Baloch terrorist groups it says are backed by India. The statement also referred to operations against "Fitna al Khwarij," the military's designation for the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The military said follow-up sanitization operations are continuing to search for any remaining suspects in the affected areas.

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in militant violence over the past two years, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces, where security forces have intensified intelligence-based operations against insurgent and militant groups.

The ISPR said the operations are being conducted under the government's nationwide counterterrorism strategy, Azm-e-Istehkam, aimed at dismantling militant networks and strengthening internal security.
