Pakistan, Iran Set $10 Billion Trade Target as Leaders Vow Stronger Ties

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday reaffirmed their commitment to boost Pakistan-Iran bilateral trade to $10 billion, underscoring shared goals in regional peace, security, and economic cooperation.

At a joint press stakeout in Islamabad, PM Sharif said both sides had signed multiple agreements and MoUs aimed at transforming longstanding ties into stronger economic and strategic cooperation. He added that delegations from both countries would continue detailed discussions to advance these goals, according to PTV World.

The two leaders also discussed religious, cultural, and historic bonds, and emphasized collaboration in the fight against terrorism. “Terrorism in Iran is equal to terrorism in Pakistan,” said PM Sharif, stressing that both nations would take effective measures against the threat.

Sharif condemned Israeli attacks on Iran and Gaza, calling them unprovoked and genocidal. He praised Iran’s response and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for peaceful nuclear energy under UN guidelines and the Palestinian cause. He also thanked Iran for its consistent support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

President Pezeshkian, on his first official visit to Pakistan, expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support during the recent Israeli aggression and described Pakistan as a “brotherly nation” with shared history and values. He stressed Iran’s “neighbourhood-first” policy and vowed to raise trade volume from $3 billion to $10 billion.

He also called for unity among Muslim nations against expansionist powers and urged international bodies to abandon double standards.

The two sides signed 12 agreements, covering cooperation in trade, technology, education, health, maritime security, judicial assistance, and tourism.

The visit signals renewed efforts by both countries to strengthen ties and deepen cooperation in an evolving regional landscape.
