Pakistani Envoy Concludes Strategic Visit to China’s Gansu Province

By The South Asia Times

BEIJING — Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, concluded a three-day orientation visit to Gansu Province, underscoring Islamabad’s commitment to strengthening multifaceted cooperation with one of China’s most historically significant and rapidly developing regions.

During his August 4–6 trip, Ambassador Hashmi engaged in high-level discussions, visited major innovation hubs, academic institutions, and industrial zones, with a focus on energy, agriculture, vocational training, and people-to-people ties, said the embassy in a statement.

In a key meeting with Mr. Hu Changsheng, Secretary of the Communist Party of China’s Gansu Provincial Committee, both sides reaffirmed the importance of enhancing bilateral relations across government, business, and civil society sectors.

Highlighting the potential for scientific and academic collaboration, the ambassador visited Lanzhou University, where researchers are developing low-cost, high-yield agricultural technologies to assist small-scale farmers in Pakistan, including innovations to boost water-use efficiency.

Ambassador Hashmi also toured major industrial sites, including Lanzhou New Area and Jinchuan Science Park, and interacted with leading firms such as LS Group and Legend Group. Discussions centered on expanding industrial and technological cooperation under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

A significant portion of the visit focused on skills development, with the ambassador exploring partnerships at the Gansu Vocational Education Park — a key hub for technical training. He met with institutional leaders to explore future collaboration in youth training and empowerment.

In interactions with local media, Ambassador Hashmi expressed optimism about unlocking new avenues for economic and cultural engagement. “This visit has strengthened our resolve to deepen Pakistan-Gansu cooperation and contribute meaningfully to the broader strategic partnership between Pakistan and China,” he said.

The visit comes amid renewed momentum in subnational engagement between Pakistan and various Chinese provinces as both sides look to expand their cooperation beyond infrastructure into high-tech industries, agriculture, and human resource development.
