4 Soldiers Lost Lives as Security Forces Repel Terrorist Attack on Army Camp in North Waziristan

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - At least four Pakistani soldiers were martyred on Friday after terrorists carried out a suicide-style attack on a security forces camp in the Boya area of North Waziristan district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), media-wing of Pakistan army, said.

According to ISPR, Khwarij militants belonging to the Indian proxy group Fitna al Khwarij  or TTP attempted to breach the perimeter of the military camp in a heinous and cowardly attack.

The assault began when the attackers rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the outer perimeter wall, causing its collapse and damaging nearby civilian infrastructure, including a mosque.

The explosion also injured 15 local civilians, among them women and children, and damaged several nearby homes, highlighting what the military described as the blatant disregard of the attackers for civilian lives.

Following the blast, four militants attempted to storm the camp, but were swiftly and decisively engaged by Pakistani troops deployed at the entrance point.

“Displaying unwavering courage and professional excellence, own troops foiled the terrorists’ nefarious designs,” ISPR said, adding that all four attackers were killed at the entrance before they could penetrate the compound.

However, during the intense exchange of fire, four soldiers embraced martyrdom after fighting gallantly. The martyrs were identified as:

  • Havildar Muhammad Waqas, 42, from Kotli

  • Naik Khanwaiz, 38, from Mansehra

  • Sepoy Sufyan Haider, 25, from Vehari

  • Sepoy Riffat, 32, from Layyah

The military said the attack was planned and orchestrated by Afghanistan-based Khwarij elements, contradicting repeated claims by the Afghan Taliban regime that no militant groups are operating from Afghan soil.

Background of Repeated Attacks

Friday’s incident follows a similar attempted suicide attack in October, when the same terrorist group targeted Wana Cadet College in South Waziristan by ramming an explosive-laden vehicle toward the educational institution. Security forces had foiled that attempt as well, killing the militants before they could enter the campus and saving all students and staff inside the complex.

Pakistan has repeatedly warned that cross-border terrorism originating from Afghan territory poses a grave threat to its security, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the former tribal districts.

Diplomatic Demarche to Afghan Taliban

In the wake of the latest attack, Pakistan has issued a strong demarche to the Afghan Taliban regime. The Afghan Deputy Head of Mission was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad, where officials conveyed Pakistan’s grave concern over continued support and facilitation allegedly provided to the Fitna al Khwarij and TTP factions.

The Foreign Office emphasized that the permissive environment enjoyed by terrorist groups in Afghanistan contradicts Kabul’s international commitments and assurances to Pakistan that Afghan soil would not be used against neighboring countries.

Pakistan has demanded a full investigation and decisive action against the perpetrators and facilitators of terrorist attacks launched from Afghan territory, urging the interim Afghan government to take immediate, concrete, and verifiable measures against all such groups, including their leadership.

“Pakistan reserves the right to defend its sovereignty and protect its citizens,” officials warned, reiterating that all necessary measures will be taken to respond to terrorism emanating from across the border.

Security forces have launched a sanitization operation in the area to eliminate any remaining threats, while the nation mourns the loss of its fallen soldiers, hailed as heroes who laid down their lives in defense of the country.
